motor recommendation for incubator

I am building an incubator and am using a ladder tray that will slide back and forth about 4 inches to turn the eggs. The ladder is made of wood. I am looking for a recommendation on a motor to move it back and forth. What type of torque is needed? Has anyone used stepper motors? No gearing, and high level of control.

Any recommendations are appreciated.
