I need to get some input from all of you motorcyclists!

Hard to find solid colored helmets, particuarly in white or light gray/silver so I can put some stickers on my helmet...yep you guess right, chicken stickers! Including horses too!

Full face?
3/4 face?
Half face?
Beanie?

I would love to use my Troxel riding helmet but I don't think the critiria is the same for motorcycles when it comes to impacts but heck you get thrown anyway!

What is your opinion and your experience? (include your motorcycle accidents and what things would you changed if you could, etc.)

I would think the full face would be pretty hot to wear in the summer.....but I don't take the heat too well.

you can get a convertable helmet. It can switch from full face to 3/4 depending on the weather/your needs.

I would never recommend riding without a helmet. No matter how safe a rider you are, there are a ton of morons on the road.

You are right, there are morons on the road. And you can't fight against a thousand pound motorcycle and heavy car or truck. Hitting the concrete sickens me..............and not to mention, road burns.

I like the 3/4 myself. It's not too hot long as you aren't sitting in construction too long! I found matte gray helmets at the yamaha place. Solid color. My husband went down with his on and the face shield stayed in place and kept the gravel and grit out of his eyes.

also check online stores. It seems easier to find solid colors online than in the brick/mortar places.

Ewesheep having ridden and raced for years...here is my advice for what it is worth. Having hit a wild boar at 90 mph...my 500.00 Shoei helmet saved my bacon. I have heat issues as well but always wear a full face helmet. They are ventilated and you can crack open the shield for extra air flow. The racing approved higher end helmets have multiple layers kevlar, extra padding and built in neck support. So...advice..... go full coverage, go good helmet and be prepared.to spend a couple hundred.dollars minimum. Hopefully you will never need it but if you should, that helmet could be the factor deciding life and death. No matter what helmet you buy...have it xrayed annually. A hairine crack is a major weakness when you need the helmet.

Suggested brands .... Shoei or arai

My mother got into a motorcycle accident a few years ago. If she wasn't wearing her full face shield, she'd either be A: dead or B: missing half of her face. The busted collar bone and ruptured spleen was bad enough, but a massive head injury? Yea, likely fatal. Her helmet, I wish I had a picture of it, was ground into the pavement. The only place she didn't have leather protecting her was on her hands, and the road rash was severe on them. The entire ordeal was beyond terrifying.

I used to ride motorcycles and I wore a full face. I used to stick my fingers into the opening over my face and pulled the visor down until he sat snug on my fingers. No fogging up, not too much wind, not too much heat, just right.
A few years ago my cousin and I decided to check out rotten.com. (NOT recommended) Saw a pic of a guy who had a crash in a half face/beanie type helmet. Lets just say everything under his eyes was unrecognisable as human... having seen that I'll stick with full face helmets!
Recommended brands Shoei, Arai or Shark.

I rode for years and my son rides and races, as do many in our family. A high quality full face is the safest way to go imo. Too many people I know have not lived to regret other styles or inferior quality. I recommend going into the actual stores to try on the helmets to see which one is the most comfortable after wearing it for at least 10 minutes or so. You can probably narrow it down to 2 right away before doing the test wears. Buying online is a really big gamble when it comes to fit.
