My mottled java exhibited the following two months ago:
Overnight, lame left foot. No signs that I noticed previously. She started limping on it. We noticed a large rock had been overturned in the coop since the chickens were digging under it and we thought maybe her foot had been stuck under it. We watched her carefully and thought she'd be ok within a week or two.
She limped for a few weeks, still ran around with the other girls, ate and drank normally, poop looked fine, layed eggs regularly.
Then, around 5-6 weeks post "injury" she really looked bad on her lame leg, now looking like the problem was moving up from her foot and her whole leg was hurting.
Right after that, we noticed she seemed to have a bit of a hard time on the other leg as well. She is now over two months past the "injury" and still very interested in eating and drinking, still lays, but cannot walk around much.
Could this be Mareks? She's survived so long, I really thought it was an injury.
My other 7 girls have shown no signs of sickness, lameness, etc.
Other info, I have 8 chickens in a large coop and they free range in my yard frequently. We feed a custom milled all organic feed as well as scraps from the garden and kitchen. They are never out if we are not there, and nothing has broken into the coop so injury by a dog or etc is unlikely. If antibiotics are recommended, I would do that, but probably not shell out a large amount of cash.
Thanks in advance for any advice, insight, experience, and tips!
