mottled right?

Maybe they're barred like my Cochins (also from Ideal). I really wasn't questioning their age, and didn't mean to turn your thread into an age debate, just thought the differences between our chicks of the same age was pretty drastic. Anyhoo- here's a baby pic of my barred baby, looks alot like your baby...

this is my bantum molted Cochin chick i bought him at a feed store so i don't know how old he was when i got him


and here he is all feathered out.

your fist pic dosen't look like a cochin at all to me the beak is all wrong but i don't know what it is.

I didn't guess barred because I thought they all had a spot on the head? Or does that only apply to barred rocks? The first chick I posted does have some white coming in on the wings so not solid black. He wouldn't be birchen would he?


miohippus: He was sold to me as a Cochin - that's the only breed I ordered. He is a hatchery bird so probably not to standard. Perhaps he's not a Cochin, but no big deal.

Neither of mine had head spots as chicks, but Ideals website describes their barred Cochins as more of a cuckoo pattern than barred....so maybe that's why they didn't have them.
