**Mottling on my Split/Black Lavender Orpingtons**

Just to be clear, this unusual bird is not directly from my eggs or Lester, but someone else working on the project.

It would be interesting to find out what the breeder did. Like whether they crossed within the birds they had hatched or whether they had crossed to non related blacks etc.​

Krys, can you show us how some of yours feathering in? I am curious to see the differences.

Right....well, erm I've having a go. Could do with someone else holding the birds.

These are some of my black mottled a few days old.

These are about about 4 weeks. Large patches of white on the chest mostly solid colour back.

I don't know much about the lavender color. Can some one explain to me exactly what is "split" black lavender and any othe info you can give me would be great.

He looks like he has some environmental issues to me. I would say the black clears up with a molt.

What sort of environmental issues would cause black in the lavender?

"Split" is a word used by some people meaning heterozygous. i.e The two genes in the gene pair are not the same gene. In this instance heterozygous for lavender being the bird carries one lavender gene & one not lavender gene, thus the lavender gene being recessive will not show. .​

I also believe the black will clear out and go to full lavender, its just a fluke in the dilution some how.. we've hatched a Meir 500 chicks/birds and haven't seen this in a single one of them.. But it is interesting no matter what happened there and to watch and see what happens... be surely watching for updates in time, by then we will be onto a new stage with our lavender program..
