Moulting, Mites or Age?

This is my five-year old Orpington and she's looking a bit raggedy.
I first thought it might be moulting, but it's a little late for that now (it's mid-winter where I live).
I then thought it could've been mites, but she has been fed so much garlic lately her breathe smells like an Italian diner.
Her vent area and the insides of her wings are still very thickly feathered- it's just her face.

Anyone know what's going on?

Thanks

It could be her age. I’ve had old chickens with the same raggedy look in some areas. Are you able to pick her up and see if you can actually see mites? Beautiful bird by the way

Thanks, she is pretty.
And no, she and her friends seem to be mite-free. The garlic was an extra precaution.
Were your older hens able to grow them back? Thanks

That’s good she’s mite free! My old hens seemed to always keep a bald or bare spot on them, a few of the feathers would grow back but it still looked like your hen’s. I wouldn’t be concerned about her, if she has no mites then she’ll be fine :)

Garlic can be toxic to birds. Please stop feeding it to her.
