Moulting???

How many times a year do chickens moult? There's feathers everywhere, I see bald patches, and feather regrowth. They were just starting to lay well because of the warmer weather, and suddenly slowed for the last few days, and now I got 1 egg from 21 hens

i really thought that they only did it once a year, or is it like my dogs shedding,...once in the fall, once in the spring?

Yep, they molt twice a year. I'm pretty sure it's the fall molt that is bigger, but it could be the other way around.

My birds didn't go through their first real molt until they were over a year and a half. They had some mini molts. They didn't stop laying altogether but did slow up alot.

My chickens haven't had a molt yet., even though we're going into autumn now.

when do they get their first moults? Mine started laying on January 1st
