:(We are pretty new to the hen raising game. We have a 1 1/2 old light brahman hen that has been very productive and beautiful. Last week she started to loose feathers. Today she has no tail, very thin wings, and neck. We also have 3 orpintons in the same coop. Do brahmans moult or do we have a serious infection to deal with? Thanks for the support, looks like a great web site and forum.

yes, they moult.

Welcome to BYC. Your Light Brahma is in molt just like one of my Light Brahmas is in molt. I always check for lice or mites just in case. I recommend that you do the same. Molt usually occurs after they are over a year old.

:pThanks for all the replies. The Brahman is bleeding a little from the empty tail fethers along with under what is left of her wings. My wife is concered that the 3 Orpingtons are pecking and hurting her. What do you suggest?
