First time exploring the site. We live in Mount Vernon, Ohio. We inherited a flock of 12 two years ago when we bought our home. This spring we were already down to just 5 from the original flock. We lost 3 to illness and 5 to predators. We decided to try our luck with some chicks. I thought 8 would be a good number. Of those chicks we lost two very young. With 6 left at 13 weeks of age we began the introduction to the older girls. They did really well and for two weeks they lived quite harmoniously together. A few nights ago we lost two more chicks to a night predator. The day after that it appears one of our hens may have killed a chick as they were put to bed and locked up and the chick was found in the morning. That evening, we had trouble getting the entire flock to go to bed, and we had to leave one adult chicken out as we could not find her. The next morning everyone in the coop seemed fine. Now we are wondering if the chicken that got left out may have been the culprit. It’s a mystery in progress. In the mean time, I was thinking about adding a roo to the flock for added protection. Even though we are two years in, we still feel very new to all this! If anyone knows of a fellow BYC enthusiast that may be needing a home for a roo in the Knox county area, hit me up. Nice to meet you all:)

This may be a longshot but I am looking for someone to check in/feed my nieces chickens the week of Thanksgiving. Her father has Covid in a hospital in Chicago and she will be away. Do you know anyone who could drop by once a day in the 43050 zip code on Breece Road? Cost? You can text me at (847)532-5226.
