Hey all! I have never heard of a mountain cur dog before but my local APL has some mountain cur/ retriever puppies up for adoption. The one I fell in love with got adopted in less than 4 hours, before I could get there to get him. But they have a few more ready for new homes. Does anyone have any experience with mountain curs? I'm curious how they do with chickens(trained of course) and with an 8 year old boy. I read that they are great family dogs but I would like to hear first hand experience. The picture below is the little guy I really wanted, picture is from the APL website. Thanks!

Any "cur" is simply a mixed dog of any varying hunting, herding, cattle, retriever, etc work dogs.
Generally you will find a "best of breed" situation, dogs that are great in the family home but very happy to put skills to good use outside. What each dog could do will vary a bit. Genetics, I.e. knowing what parents were bred for, might give good indication towards the dog's future skills and interests that you could harness.

Have you looked up the breed? I know what you mean by "cur" but the mountain cur is an actual breed. Not just a mixed breed. So they were bred for hunting and treeing. I guess it doesn't matter though. All the puppies from the APL have been adopted out. Took less than a day!
