I have several Pekin ducks that have just started laying and one the laid for the first time this morning. When I collected the eggs, no one paid any attention except the newbie. She went into her house and started making this horrible crying noise and nosing around in the straw. I figured she would forget or move past it but it's now almost 3 hours later...and she is still crying which has gotten everyone else upset. I had golf balls in each box to encourage laying, etc. so the nest isn't empty. Is this normal? Any suggestions to help her? She isn't going to hatch the egg...no drake. Just never had one 'mourn' before....

Must be hormones have kicked in and she maybe feeling a little broody? I have several that are broody right now even though I take the eggs.
