So yesterday there was a young mouse in the coop. There were also eight 6 week old chicks in the coop. I tried to quickly catch the mouse by the tail but the pine shavings prevented a good grab. A couple chicks saw the mouse and BAM it was curtains for that poor young mouse. The chick had it by the neck and smacked it on the floor three times and broke it’s neck. So fast!!!

I’ve seen chickens kill a mouse. But sweet, innocent, cheeping, darling baby chicks? Velociraptors I tell you! Kinda gave me goosebumps. But then the chase began and the goosebumps went away. 90 minutes later I saw one chick trying to swallow the mouse whole. So I gently pulled the mouse out of her mouth. Only the tail and back feet were sticking out! Cut the mouse into three parts and watched the chase begin again. It was like NASCAR!

Still feel bad for the mouse. But the chicks had a great time!
(My snap traps and cats have caught several mice this week. All grown females and young weaned mice. Gotta get that daddy.)

Saw mine eat a toad once... swallowed it whole and went on it’s merry way.
