We have a nice run and awesome coop. The pullets love it all. However, we are having a bit of a problem getting them in the coop at night. They all cluster in the doorway, and some can't get in. I have a night light on in there, so it's not dark, but they just won't get their little selves into the coop properly.

Now here is the problem. I built one of them fancy automatic doors, and it works marvelously dropping down slowly. However, it is not uncommon for one of the little misses to get shut out because she can't get in the door, as there are 11 other little bird bodies blocking the way.

The night light is one of those light sensing LED deals and comes on quite nicely, way before the birds head for the door jam party. Perhaps it is not bright enough, or the LED light is too weird for them???

Thoughts???

BTW, today I left the flap up over the nest boxes and they were all lined up nicely on the outside edge when I went out to check them after dark. Silly birds.

Just keep putting them in further, I see you coop has windows. There should be enough natural light for them to use to go to roost. So if you think the LED light is spooking them you can try it with out the night light. I don't think it would, but you never know. How old are they? They used the edge of the nest box as a perch do they use the perches in the coop at all?
