We moved our six baby chicks out to coop permently yesterday. They are six weeks old. Seem to be doing ok. Not roosting on perch though. Slept on ground in a ball. They did this in brooder too. It was 68 last night. Probably just nervous first night out. They are eating out of big hanging box that came with coop. Trying to teach to perch and drink out of (cups) we screwed in bucket. Do still have small water container out there until I think they are drinking out of cups, but took away small feeder. So tempted to get more babies........

Without adults to show them how to roost, you either need to wait and give them time to figure it out for themselves, or show them how to do it by putting them on the roosts at night. No "right" answer, do what works for you.

This isn't my post but I found it by searching for the same answer - ours have been out for a week now and still huddle together at night in the bedding. I put them up on the roost tonight but once I closed the door, I'm pretty sure I heard them all back down. 😆 Do I just set them up there each night and eventually they'll figure it out?

Still not sure if they are perching at night. But seem to be doing well. Drinking out of cups but not tapping yellow things to fill back up so we are doing it several times a day. Thinking of getting another kind as well.

A yup. To try and encourage them to stick, wait until it's dark or very close to it before putting them on the roost.
