3rd hatch this spring/summer is about over, there’s 8 eggs in the incubator still out of 40. I added some jumbo eggs on second day so they will be late. Have 1 straggler, not doing good. But 31 healthy and thriving chicks in the box now.. carry on..

Are these for eating/selling eggs? I'm naive about it but my neighbor has 6 quail just for eating their eggs. She has them in a cage in her old barn. We just have Silkies, but I itch to try pheasants or quail for release.

Release to fend for themselves after you hatch them?

Well I'm sure there's a way to adjust them to the wild before just throwing chicks out into the woods. I'll look into it further. We're surrounded by farmers' fields on three sides and a forest on the back side, but my understanding is the DNR for our state is looking for people to raise them, without telling any of us how to.

If you're going to release them, make sure you have your licenses and have done your research. Do NOT release coturnix quail. They are domestic and will not survive. They are also not native to the Americas and it would be illegal to release them.

I’ve only been here a few months but somewhere along the way I have ignored a few people.. I don’t remember why but obviously we have bumped heads or someone was bent out of shape by a comment of mine or was a bit pushy so I just hit ignore.. because I know how I am and I can get rude so I chose not to go there. But I can see comments and not the person they are commenting on.. I am not sure what this was about.. but I do not release them except into the oven, bbq grill or freezer.. carry on

Yes, thanks. My farmer neighbor explained that to me. She said her quail wouldn't live 5 minutes in the forest, and they know they are predator bait, so happy to be where she has them. It's bobtail, she told me can be grown for releasing, but I don't know what any of them look like as "chicks" so is why I asked.

Well, I hear you as I'm not getting much positive help from a couple of commenters when I ask a mere question but I won't ignore anybody as they have their opinion and I believe they mean well. I guess I shouldn't have asked on your post.
