I have a hen that made a nesting area in the top row of role out nests .
today my daughter was checking the chickens an found a chick in the run with the other chickens. The role out nest is about 4 feet off the floor in the henhouse an the house is 3 feet off the ground. So when I heard this I moved the hen an the nest and the baby to a small cage (because the only way for the baby to be in the run with the rest of the chickens is she had to fall out of the nest) But she hasn't gone back to the nest but is caring for the Baby chick.
How long should I weight for her to get back on the nest. what should I do.

You need to move the whole nest to a height the chicks can manage, if only a pile of straw in the corner of the coop. They do not have to be separated from the rest of the flock.

The chick probably jumped out of the nest, rather than fell. It is instinctive for them to leave the nest to forage a day or two after hatch. The mama might abandon any unhatched eggs very soon since one is ready to go, in order to raise her chick.

At this stage how long can the eggs go without the hen sitting on them before they are no good. Also i tive in Tucson. Its about 80 at night an 105 during the day.

That's good.
