Hello, from Lancaster County Pa.
Big problem with a bantam hen who has for the third time layed her eggs and is setting in the worse place ever. She is on a ledge in our barn where the cat sits above and the dog is waiting below. The last hatchlings were devoured immediately from the cat and the dog, before we could collect them to remove from harms way. The last group of eggs we gently removed and re situated her on the hen house but she refused to sit on them then. A friend told us that his uncle used to frequently move a nest by using a long armed metal serving spoon, which will not hold the human scent. Placd them in a better nesting area and then put the hen to it and it worked every time. Does anyone know of this, or a better technique or am I sunk again!! As you know, the chicks do not hatch at once. We were waiting for all of them to hatch so we could move the whole family together but they did not last for 12 hours. We were heart broken! Please advise........
