Moving across country taking chickens with me 2500 miles...

I would be very concerned about the temperatures in a truck bed exposed to the summer sun on a highway. Heat is deadly.
I agree. We will be checking on them whenever we stop for gas. Plus they with be at an edge, so not completely covered with tarp

Possibly. We have two vehicles. A van and a truck with the trailer. The truck bed with be covered with a tarp coving desks, shelves, etc.
Put the birds in the van. Trailer for what the van can't hold because of birds. Rent larger trailer for truck, if needed. Keep van moving, food and bathroom stops only. Transport birds as fast and stress free as possible.

They will be on an open trailer, possibly on a truck bed. We are moving from Oregon to mississippi
Why in the wide world of sports are you leaving Oregon??? You're giving up Rain, Icestorms, the odd Volcano and Earthquake for what???? Heat, Humidity and Hurricanes????

Just joking. I hope you and your flock have a safe trip;)

Am I dating myself if what first comes to mind is Animal from the Muppets calling out "ROAD TRIP!!!!" and then seeing this being pulled along ...

But, didn't Gonzo have the chickens?
