Moving across country with chickens?

Hearing from "veterans" of trips with a zoo gives me courage! I will make sure that I have all the paperwork, and then I will just try to relax and survive the trip. If there were no animals involved in the move, I would not worry one minute, but then again, the animals are my dearest family and I am moving to give them 18 acres. Oh the things we do for the animals we love and cherish! Each animal I have is worth everything to me, and I will do whatever I can to move them safely.

When was the last time any of you were stopped at a state line and checked for hidden chickens?
I've traveled the United States, coast to coast, many times and it's never happened to me.
Some states have regulations requiring animal health certificate, some do not. As far as I know these regulations are not universal-by which I mean a state may not require the same sort of certification for a chicken that they do for a dog or a horse. I have been involved in our State Fair which draws exhibitors from other states and I know the health certificates for various types of animals vary greatly.
As to the dogs I would not recommend heartworm meds unless you know heartworm is a problem where you're going. I am a kennel owner and we don't treat for heartworm because it isn't a common problem in this area. Heartworm meds are harsh and shouldn't [IMO & that of my vet] be used lightly.
I would not label your vet a dolt which seems a little rude to me. Different people have different but equally valid points oof view. Your vet & many other people see you hens as just chickens that could be replaced very cheaply when you arrive at your destination. You see them differently. Neither point of view is wrong-just different.
I'll be perfectly honest, I have a hard time identifying with the chickens as pets mindset I see from many on this board and I'm more than a little disturbed by the thought of chickens in diapers roaming around peoples houses. But that's just me. You can do what you want with your chickens,

Wel this turned into a rant didn't it. The long and short of it is-go ahead and move your chickens and don't stress too much about it. I doubt you'll have any problem with regulations.

And four years old!
I was interested to see it as we may be doing the same type of move in a few years......but I don't think we're getting an update here

A quick search on "STATENAME importation of poultry" will come up with some results. Typically, they can't come from any locations with a known disease problem, or quarantined area, and they need a certificate of healthy from a veterinarian.
