We made it to Tennessee...16 hour drive with hubbie driving the rental truck and me driving my Explorer with 3 dogs and 4 cats pulling a 5X10 trailer so overloaded the tires hit the wheel wells on every bump...LOL. We looked like the Clampetts only we were going the other way.

We arrived at 1:30 in the morning blurry eyed and just unlocked the house, let all the animals in and slept on the floor with them. I know why Eskimos slept their dogs...warm buddies.

I have spotted the place for the veggie garden and would like to build Ze Coop next to it. The coop could back up to a metal shed for extra protection and all would be enclosed by field fencing. First question to you all...how many hens should I have to supply eggs for just the two of us plus some extra for friends and baking (hubbie likes to cook)?

Second question...would it be ok to locate the coop inside the veggie garden so I could turn them loose in it during the day? I'm thinking pest control and extra fertilization. Our dog kennel would also be located next to the garden area so I would have built in predator alarms during the day.

The property has a 8 foot wooden fence (panels) that the previous owner installed along a property line to block out the neighbor's field. I have no idea why he did that since I have met the neighbor and he's very nice and grows some produce for the local markets. He even offered to let the hubbie hunt on his property. The neighbor said the previous owners complained about the frogs being too loud in his pond...LMAO. I sure don't mind looking at overgrown fields or hearing frogs (more wildlife for me to watch) so we're thinking of taking down the panels and using the wood to build the coop...pre-fab floors and walls so to speak. I would like to hear your opinions and advice on these questions.
