I’m lucky enough to be picking up an Arucana hen tomorrow from a lady who is sick of her broodiness.
Apparently she lays 6 eggs then goes broody

I already have egg layers so a broody would come in handy.

My question is:
How do I go about moving her and setting some eggs under her?
I’ve never bought a hen that was broody at the time, my little broodies just do their thing.
I’ve tried moving our Belgian hen when she was broody and she b*tched and whinged and left her eggs.

Any advice?

Just wait and see. She may need to settle in to her new surrounding for a while before she sets again. I don't think most hens would sit again immediately, if you move them to a new place.

I know this is an old post, but was searching and came across this... I just moved my broody (she’s been sitting for 9 days) and keeps getting kicked off by other hens to lay (even though there are other boxes) anyway I just moved her and the eggs to a private ‘maternity ward’ and it’s been a few hours and she’s still not sitting. I’m hoping it’s normal for them to take a little bit of settling before sitting on the eggs again? I don’t know what to do otherwise.

I don't usually move a broody unless I have a warmed up in incubator standing by. Sometimes I need it, sometimes I don't.
