moving chickens in together...

i have two flocks of chickens, i want to move them all to one coop do i do it at night, or day?

People claim to do it at night and they don't recognize the mix of birds, if I do it, there is a riot before I can get out to the hen house in the morning. I would say introduce them together, mingling in the yard by day and then allow their actions to speak. My girls seem exceptionally brutal on new ones, even if they have seen each other. I've been trying to mainstream the 8 week old chicks and the big hens still want to chase them down and boink them and they are in the same coop separated by wire.
