Hi. I have two young fully grown ducks, both boys. One is a huge white Peking duck, and the other is brown. They have been living with my chickens in the coop, and we have a large enclosed run for them. I don't have a pond at home and have been using 2 large basins changing water daily for them.
But at my work we have a nice size turtle pond. I am thinking of possibly bringing the ducks to work to live by the pond. But I am worried if they'd be ok in a less secure open area like that, and if they'd get along with the turtles (if they'd bother each other)? The place where I work is a small gated retired community, and the folks there would love having the ducks by the pond. But it's still an open space compared to our enclosed run, and every now and then we see a stray animal come by, especially at night.
Any thoughts? Thanks.

hi! first of all, even if they are in a pond they need a safe predator proof pen at night. turtles will kill full grown ducks and drag them under water as well. my friends ducks got killed my a turtle that they didn’t know was in the pond.

i definitely recommend either keeping them or finding them a nice home (remember releasing ducks is illegal and cruel)

you could get a kiddie pool in the run for them to swim in, my ducks have some and love them! good luck 😊

I absolutely wouldnt. Your Pekin (and likely the other as well) cant fly, and I'm sure you've seen their running isnt all that great either. Even predators physically smaller than them could easily make a meal out of them. Its also not common to actually see your night time predators - that's the whole idea afterall. They're definitely present even if you havent spotted many of them. Domestic ducks have no defenses, they need man-made protection. You could petition to have a coop installed for them on the property but someone would have to be there to lock them in it every single night and let them out every single morning.

Thank you guys! So this idea is definitely not going to work. They'll stay at home then.
