There's a possibility that our family will be moving from Oregon to Colorado within the next year. Since our ducks are part of the family, we'd like to bring them with us.

We'd greatly appreciate tips or advice on the following:

1) Logistics of transporting three Indian Runner Ducks across state lines. Would flying or driving be best? Any tips for both forms of transportation?

2) Boarding solutions once we get to Colorado. There's a good chance we will have to rent for a few months before buying a house in Colorado. Therefore, we'd need to find someone able and willing to temporarily board our ducks until we could bring them onto our own property.

Contact the state veterinarian from Colorado to see what tests and paperwork they are going to require for you to import your ducks. You should also contact any states that you are going to be passing through about their transport laws. Transport laws are often different from import laws.

Whatever you do, do not go through California since parts of the state are under quarantine because of their outbreak of Virulent Newcastle's Disease. This may also apply to one area in Utah where people illegally moved infected poultry from California to Utah.

You could post on one of the Colorado threads in the Where am I? Where are you! forum to see if anyone in your relocation area may be willing to help.
