I can't believe how fast these three little chicks grow.

Sometime yesterday, my two Orps discovered that they can jump from their feeder to the roost and back again. In that little stretch of about 10 inches they try like mad to fly. The Australorp hasn't figured the distance part but flaps her little wings too. They have been eying the top of the brooder when I open it and I'm nervous they will jump out and fall on the garage floor. Their current brooder is on the work bench. So tonight we will be moving them to the "juvenile" brooder. The sides are taller and they'll have more to go crazy. My girls are only a week old.

Anybody else surprised by how soon they had to move their babies into a larger brooder? Also, is this typical behavior for their age?

Yes! I moved my babies in the larger brooder last night! They were getting so crowded in the guinea pig cage. I moved them into a extra large dog kennel.

I agree! They're so much fun to watch.....Mine are three weeks old and most are nearly fully feathered, except for some fuzz on their heads and necks.......I try to keep things interesting for them......I'll put a log in the brooder for them to hop on, or a clump of grass with the roots and dirt attached....They just go crazy over that.....

They seem to be getting much more social and friendly. They get very excited when I come and visit and talk with them.....Soooo cute. I've got 6 SLW, and 6 that were labeled as red pullets.....I feel that some of those girls might be boys....They've got HUGE legs and feet!

They fly at eachother and sort of chest-bump.....They constantly play play play and then they get tired and nap. Too cute!
