Hey all, I first want to thank everyone on this site for all the responses for my first flock . . . I can't express enough how much knowledge and reinforced observations and realizations i have had from reading sooo atrticles and threads. So , again, THANKS! IM CHICKEN-SMITTEN these days and it's more than rewarding seeing my girls turn my compost, fertilize my soil in my garden, yard, and greenhouse. They are my 5 beak strong dream team of sorts when it comes to my little sanctuary in the city of Portland ... THEY'RE ALL HAPPY HEALTHY HENS AND I OWE THAT TO THIS SITE . ...

ANYWAY, MY POINT FOR THIS THREAD IS MOVING DAY IS UPON US ALL HERE AT "Thee Häus of Hen'ny, henny!"
I have modgepodged the dog crate that will be moving the girls to their new home to their current run to ease the short ride they will endure while traveling. I figured the more familiar they are with every part of the big day, the easier the whole move will be on them.
NOW, I have a shed that is a prefabricated, waterproof, and well vented future hen house. I was going to build a new hen house because they're just too crowded in there current a.frame, but I'm thinking this shed will be ABSOLUTELY PERFECT FOR THEM.
But my concerns are just layout and the height of the window which will be turned Into their door. So any advice on high coop entrances for the birds is welcomed. Or if I should keep the window as just that and fabricate a new door entirely . . .

ALSO, I've been debating an install of a mesh floor beneath the roost bars, however, its not necessary and the cold here in the pnw would penetrate the space far more easily . . . I have modified a 15'lx5'wx6'h dog kennel for their run and could easily make it so they could go under the shed, but not necessary.
So I'm blabbering on to basically bounce my ideas off everybody for experienced hands-on knowledge if my heads right in this move.

I write this to also be informed of any other things I should prepare for or take into acct. . .
In conclusion.
What would you do!

Just one comment .do not put in high-roosts.your Roost should be 12 to 18 inches above the floor if you have large fowl. that way the birds will not sprain a foot jumping down off the roost. Jumping is what they'll be doing since there's not enough room for them to fly down .
Best ,
Karen
