Moving to Arizona in a few months

..and of course the chaykins are coming! Phoenix area, so it is a scorcher a fews months out of the year.

I was wondering how hens will take it, I'm currently in SoCal and we had a few 100+ weeks last summer and some of the hens were panting quite a bit. Electrolytes, plenty of shades but even at night the bigger girls, Brahma, Australops were still overheating.

I'm sure we have quite a few BYCers from AZ, any recommendation on keepin' em cool will be appreciated!

Leave the hose on and !ale them puddles, buy a cheap mister that you hook up to the hose, kitty pool, fan ,ice treats, frozen water bottle.

Awesome! sums up some of what I did last summer mister worked pretty good, but kitty pool, nobody seems game to get wet much lol... could've been my setup. Good news it'll be a coop complex design from scratch so I'll keep that in mind. Maybe a concrete setup with a lil' pond would be more accessible.

@TeenageRooster's Dad Since you will be moving to Arizona, you would probably do best to get all of those answer's that you seek over in our Arizona state thread here. What part of the Phoenix area are you planning to move to? Last summer we had 118-F. temps. I am currently in the process of raising chicken's that can take our summer heat better.
