I have 4 RIR that are 16 weeks and I want to move them to a bigger coop. I'm wondering if the larger space will be a hard transition. Going from a 2x8 to 8x8 coop.

Hello and :welcome

I believe that they will love it! They tend to like the extra room in case they need to get away from each other! :)

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! They should like all the extra room eventually! Chickens do tend to hate change so it may take them awhile to get used to it.

Welcome to BYC!

Yes, they may resist change at first, but will eventually appreciate all that room. When you get the new coop done, you can get the birds used to it first by putting them in there for a few hours a day. That way when you do move them in for good, they are not as shocked.

Great to have you aboard and welcome to our flock!

Thank you for all the great advice. I feel very welcomed to be apart of The BYC community.

All you have to do is put your chickens in the bigger space they will love it. You will have to either keep them locked in the new coop for a few days in a row, or take them into the coop at night for a little bit but then they will go in on their own and recognize it as their home.
