Moving to Northern Arizona and i have 10 girls i need to bring with me. What would be the best city in Northern AZ to move to?

I don't think they allow roosters in town proper but most people don't care, Taylor or Heber maybe too.
Payson and Pine aren't Northern, they're central. just for info.
Yes, but still have the woodsy northern feel and access to winter sports, so thought I'd mention them. You're right though. Sometimes when people say northern AZ they really mean anything north of the valley. (Guessing you're a native since you know the difference?)

Anything north of the desert I suppose. From Phoenix to Tucson.
Yep, as nuthatched mentioned, I also gave my top central picks already. People generally mean "high desert/pines" rather than strict geographic regions when they say northern AZ. Unless local.

Cottonwood area might be cool if you like visiting old mining towns like Jerome. I also used to love to camp around Crown King because the town/bar were so interesting to visit. Not sure if it's a place to live full time but it may appeal to some people. My recommendations also may not be totally up-to-date so definitely do more research!

That's true, lol. I know people who consider Fountain Hills "up north". I was in Oregon a few months ago and some people I was talking to wouldn't believe that we only had the four Seasons but even several feet of snow in the winter. Yes, I was born here, so I'm a surly native. :plbb

Haha yeah it always takes people by surprise. My out-of-state cousins growning up thought we lived on flat sand everywhere. Ummm part of the Rockies pass through it! Now I'm in TX and missing the mountains and snow.

@springvalley123
Do you have any recommendations for your neck of the woods?
It depends on your preferences---rural, suburban, etc. I think Prescott Valley has a no chickens ordinance, but didn't used to. I know @Parront is in Prescott, don't know if she's moved yet. I like where I am, I've also lived in Cordes Lakes. These are mild climates during the winter, though anywhere you go, you still have to have at least ice, water and shade for the birds in summer. Flagstaff is so high altitude, they have tons of snow but still have some heat in summer, and I think their housing is sky high and unavailable. Here in the Mayer zip code there's still some options for housing. I was in Black Canyon city before---it's still quite hot, almost as bad as phoenix, but generally the evening temps there drop much better than they do in Phx. I know a gal who has chickens in Black Canyon and has lots of established shade trees and so only had her first losses after several years of chickens, last summer when the extreme heat came suddenly and caught her unprepared--I believe she had Delaware hens but previously had orpingtons, easter eggers, and australorp with no losses.

I wouldn't recommend living in Crown King or those super rural areas like it that only have dirt roads. The main reason, is they often have to be evacuated for long periods of time during wildfire season. Last year there was a fire in the area, for about a month as I recall, and I don't think that was the only time that town has had to evacuate due to fire. It'd be a pain in general to evac for so long, much less if you had poultry....
