Moving up the pecking order.?

Is this even possible to live up the pecking order.?
Pebbles was the chicken at the bottom of the pecking order, she's like 5 months younger than the other two.
Now that she's a little older, I seen her and Talulah (the middle chicken in the pecking older) having a stand off.
They just stood really tall and still, face to face and made such a weird rattle like noise. And then pebbles Ruffles her feathers and pecked her but Talulah stayed in place and pecked pebbles back and she ran. Pebbles tried to peck again but got put back into place.

That's normal, it could be an attempt to expert herself, or just a slight conversation between them.
