Mrs Twigg is worrying me!

ahhh missprissy- the notorious enabler. I do believe that if you are not directly responsible for many of my future plans, you contributed in some way.

Have you been reading my mind, MissPrissy??

The problem will be when it's "cullin' time"... I've told Mr. Twigg that if I lived on an actual farm, I'm sure I'd be a vegetarian

The turkeys were all his idea, tho... "Wouldn't it be great if our contribution to Christmas dinner is the turkey??"

(on a side note... these smileys just crack me up!)

We did Thanksgiving turkey last year.

Best. Turkey. Ever.

I am looking for the perfect breed turkey eggs now for this year.

I also have goose eggs in the bator.

Christmas goose!

It is never easy to take a life but my turkeys had a better life and were respected and cared for better than any commercial turkey. They didn't have disease or need to take medicine. I feel as if I did the responsible thing. I did right by the animals that feed my family. My kids learn there is a price to pay for the food on the table and it is far more than the money we fork over at the grocery store.

Once you get your head wrapped around the idea and respect and care for the animal as your food source and not your pet it is different. The same as with our meat chickens. We took very good care of them but we did not play with them and they were not pets.

Thankfully, Mr. Twigg has a lot of experience with this and he is an amazing teacher! I'm hoping that after thirtysomething years, I *can* get my head around it. Time will tell, as will the casseroles

I am the one who, given the space and money, would take in every stray I came across. I even hand fed a very new baby bird that my cats had "played with", only for Mr. Twigg to do the responsible thing and put it out of it's misery - it was never going to make it and in my effort to "save" it, I was, in all actuality, being cruel.

Can't help it... he's turned me into a bleeding heart

I'm sure I'll get there, in the end

Nah .... you weren't being cruel. You were doing your best .... you were simply being the woman I married.

d.k :

51 --- IF I added right-- AND ALL THE EGGS HATCH!! . . . You didn't trick me by throwing in the 8 sorry-- meant duck eggs. . .Said turkey eggs the first time .

When I first saw your post I thought "Oh my goodness, I can't have 51 chickens - how did I go from 13 to 51 practically overnight? They must have added wrong."

Well I added and I came up with 57 if the 14 hatch - Plus 8 ducks. OMG. and the feed store just started getting in more breeds and duckies and bunnies.

I'm in real trouble here cause I know I can't set foot in the feed store without buying more. I'd better learn to process and eat a few once they start reproducing
