I am thinking about going to the auction. Over 9 hours drive each way so I really want to be sure I want to go. Any info I would greatly appreciate.

The only bird I am looking for is a Temminck's Tragopan female, but I heard there are crazy animals there.

It's 7 miles from my house. We get our hay there. Are you talking about coming the end of March for the alternative animals and bird auction ? That could be interesting, but the weekly auction is just normal livestock. It's a real nice area though.

Yes, the Alternative Animal Auction, March 29-31. Birds are Friday & Saturday, Saturday will also have domestic animals, sheep & goats, reptiles, swans & kangaroos then Sunday will be large animals like deer, buffalo, camels, zebras, pigs, llamas, EMUS!!!! I always wanted Emus

) Sounds really fun but I have no idea what hotel/motels are close or even a Bed & Breakfast. Really, I need inexpensive! Do you happen to know of anywhere close to stay that is reasonable too?

It's a great place to go and look around. We usually go and look around and sometimes sell there. But I have bought a couple of times and have found out that you are getting others junk. They are either sickly, Non-fertile or have a DQ: Too many toes, too less of toes. Or even you will get there old stock. You have to really be careful. I would hate for you to drive that far and get something that is sick.

It is really neat to go to and see all the differant animals. We like to take our kids and show them around.

Geeze. I work for a school and the dates this year are not really working with my schedule. Not one "Alternative" auction in the summer. Thanks for letting me know.

I went up last year. Its a good time...interesting..something to do sort of thing. We stayed at Harmony Haven B&B in Berlin ( not too far from the auction) and it was wonderful! The lady is very nice, great hospitality and an excellent cook! Her # is 330-893-2026. I would love to go back again this year...just not sure yet!

I've been several times, but not since the Zanesville debacle. Check out their website, sometimes they post the results of the last auction, prices & what was sold. Its like any auction, you have to check out what is there. They usually sell lots of peacocks and game birds. I think they start on Thursday night. Its a great place to get cages and sometimes netting. They usually have a lot of them. I bought a pair of bantam cochins there that turned out to be a really great pair of silkies (I obviously wasn't paying enough attention), that got me hooked on silkies as parents. I also got my first pair of toulouse geese there, which were also great. Its hard to find though, I get lost every time, I live about 5 1/2 hours away, so its a pain getting lost. My garmin for some reason wants to get me within a mile or 2 and then goes crazy. If you can, go, its a really fun experience.

Thanks for the information about the bed and breakfast, I really want to go but all I need to buy is a Tragopan and so it seems like a very far distance in order to get just 1 bird. I am actually hoping my friend says she wants to go then I will be "forced" to go. Why oh WHY can't they have a sale in summer? I mentioned the time off to my supervisor and got a "sad" face. Ugh! I have hundreds of hours but I always feel guilty taking time off.
