I have 4 mallards who live in the lower part of our back yard. This is where their house and kiddie pools are. The area is all dirt due to over hanging trees which does not let grass grow.the area around their pools gets so muddy. Any suggestions to remedy this

That's the million dollar question! I use pelleted pine bedding, but I've seen others use sand or rock (rounded/tumbled), both of which would be better than the pine, imo. I really ought to get that switched up. 😂

Agree with Aunt Agnus...they love their mud! Our kiddie pool sits in an area we have a bunch of river rock so that helps! But where ever there was grass in our small backyard is now mostly mud....

I wonder if you could use bark chips since it's under trees, so no grass there anyway. At least to set your kiddie pool on, or around the kiddie pool. Treat like a flower bed, with mulch, but bigger bark chip pieces like you see at a playground.

I don't think it would be too bad on their feet, but maybe others have found that as a bad solution. So wait to see if others chime in.

I was worried about the river rocks for my ducks feet, but so far no bumble foot and the ducks don't seem to mind it. I do check periodically so I can catch something quick if it does cause problems.
