hi

as its been soo rainy and wet , where my chickens live has become unbelievably muddy. they are in a normal chicken run with a small run, but we have added a larger run around this, this is where it's muddy. does any one know if there is any thing i can do to prevent this?? i was thinking of maybe covering the mud with some sand, any ideas??
many thanks:)

Check your slope and drainage first and be sure they are adequate, then add a substantial amount of sand. You can also add slabs of flat rock, too.

Ideally, it would be nice to roof, but it's late in the season in the northern hemisphere.

If you have room, make a platform for the birds near the pop door- can be as simple as an old table.

Some additional tactics (you are best off with a multi-pronged approach) in the 'fixing a muddy run' page linked in my .sig below.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat
