With all this rain here in Virginia, my chicken yard and the run are full on mud! We have fixed the issue in their yard but need advice on what to do with the run. We have just added another thick layer of dirt in the run, but I'm pretty sure that isnt going to fix the problem.

My land is clay dirt I put sand and mulch in my run haven't had an issue since

Since you fixed the drainage issue, add tree trimming chips or a natural mulch(not colored). Make it a few inches thick. All the dirt in the world won't fix your problem, especially if it is not covered. Using mulch the poop dries, breaks up and mixes into it. You should not have any bad odors, as long as you add more mulch, as it breaks down. I haven't cleaned my run out in over 3 years. I also add yard and garden waste as it is available. My run is covered, but this method works in an uncovered run as well. Just like walking on a well mulched flower bed.
