We live in Florida and have had a lot of rain lately. Our run is 10x8' and now is all mud. It is completely fenced in but has anywhere from 4 to 8 inches of mucky mud. We've considered getting cat litter to try to absorb the water or throwing hay out there as well. We put some boards down temporarily to give our chickens something to stand on. Any suggestions to help us would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Mine is the same, I have gone and got a bale of straw and tossed afew biscuits out at a time, the girls love it they scratch it up and spread it around, once a week I rake it up into piles and they spread it out again then after awhile I put it on the compost pile or straight on the garden beds and start again. It doesn't look very pretty but the girls have a ball and my daughter and I can walk around the run without slipping over.

I live near the beach. When you say "deep sand" is that a type of sand or simply making it deep in the run. I can get lots of sand if it doesn't matter the type.

I will change mine in the spring then again late fall. I will ise the old sand in my gardens to till into rhe dirt... Free fertilizer/dirt softening. Makes your garden grow better. Also, sand is easier to clean. I use a kitty litter scooper to scoop poo and it looks pretty. It DOES get wet, but dries quickly without a horrible smell.
