Muddy run!! Sand or chipped bark

Hello
We have had a lot of rain recently and our run is really wet and muddy.
Would you recommend sand or chipped bark, i have heard that chipped bark causes respiratory disease is this true?
Any info would be greatly appreciated as we are sinking in it.

Sand is without a doubt the material of choice. Water drains quickly and it can be easily raked to remove droppings. More sand can be added to further build up run. Bark on the other hand would be next to impossible remove droppings from. You would need to remove it and replace with new.
