Muddy run

I have a very muddy run as water will not drain. I have used straw during bad weather but need a permant fix for the problem. I am thinking of using weed matting and sand with pea gravel on top. I am worred if pea gravel will damage feet, i know that gravel will bed in to sand over time. will this work? thanks

I'd do the gravel on the bottom with the sand on top. It should last longer this way and the sand will be easier on their feet than the gravel.

Do a search on sand in the run - several people here swear by it, but it must be put down when the ground is completely dry.
