Mug Rug Swap and Project Challenge

Here are two of our tops that I have just completed in the last few weeks. since I lost all my past info maybe someone can tell me when and what they were

I remember that this one was a disappearing 9 patch. I tried to place the blocks so the most intense cream color was in one corner, the let it blend out lighter like sun shine.
I know these tops are not hanging straight but it'still raining out, I'm just so glad its not snowing!

I'm in for the MR and not sure abt the 2nd part. We are to quilt it to?

I'm satisfied with any color.

Is there something that converts a regular quilt block down to a MR?

Sorry for the questions.

For the second part you just have to finish a quilt top and get it ready for the quilt sandwich, so no you don't have to quilt it. and for the MR, you just make a block or design of your choice and if the block is what your going for and it isn't the finished size of A mug rug (is a mini quilt varying in size from 4” x 7” to as large as 12” x 8") then you add some sort of border etc to make it the correct size. remember the MR needs to be big enough for a cup and a cookie or cupcake. There is a web site posted in the instructions for you to look at and get ideas to help the creative juices flowing. I hope this all helps.

I just love the tops nice job and the brain cells are dead right now on what the top block was called but I will figure it out tomorrow for ya, unless someone beats me to it.

Nice!

I will be working on the nine patch one. For some unknown reason I decided an alternative pattern for it and cut all the fabrics but now I have cold feet. http://www.modabakeshop.com/2010/02/off-the-grid-sliced-nine-patch-quilt.html

Since everything is cut and I made extra, I feel I can not go back to the easy finish it was supposed to be.

Hopefully this challenge will be what will get me going and get this done.

Jenmack, the mug rug doesn't have to be a quilt block, it can be anything. Last time I received the most lovely appliquéd mushrooms. It's never had a mug near it! It hangs in pride in my hallway and is much admired. I've done hearts in the past. You can machine appliqué if you want. But if appliqué is not you thing, what about crazy quilting to use up some scraps, or an abstract art piece. Is there a technique you want to try or practice. A mug rug is the perfect size. Of course it can be a pieced block. What about two log cabin blocks with skinny strips side by side. The important thing is you do something that you'd be pleased to receive and you do it with friendship and good wishes for your unknown recipient. You don't have to wait until you know who will be receiving it. The other beauty of the mug rug is that the recipient really appreciates that you have made it for them whether you are the most experienced or most novice quilter.

OldRustyHen,

Those quilt tops are lovely. I am really impressed with your idea of grading the creams corner to corner. Hope you don't mind if I try that too.

I am also impressed with the top and bottom borders of the other one. So colourful and another scrap buster!
