Can you use cypress mulch in my ducks outer area that they play in to help keep the smell down?

I use cypress mulch to help with the dust that turns to mud when it rains. I've never had a problem with it. I have chickens and not waterfowl. I don't know if it will help with the smell.

How does cedar mulch cause problems? I don't use it, just want to know.
