I picked 3 Ancona ducks yesterday, but the farm I got them from also have Muscovy. Due to lack of information on mule ducks, I’m seeking opinions on the Ancona couples “son”. The alleged parents are average sized Anconas. I was told their baby was a boy and hatched last year. She’s most definitely not a boy. She quacks loudly. She’s huge though. Attached a pic, she’s the big one in the back with a yellow bill. Mom is on the left, dad on the right. I did get the two scovy hens as well.
Can a mule look Ancona but be huge? Do mules quack? It’s too soon to know if she’s laying eggs, no one laid any last night and I’d need 4 from that pen to verify whether or not she lays.
I know the likelihood is almost none (20-30% fertility if mom was bred by a Muscovy), but I wanted to be sure before adding her to my Ancona breeding program.

The two ducks on your right are muscovys, the ones on the left are all mallard derived. The one farther left is not an Ancona but the one in the back left is. The one with the black “hat” is a magpie.

The one with the hat is far too large to be a magpie. The only one I am questioning is the Ancona looking one in the back, because they have Muscovy drakes as well as the Ancona drake.

She doesn't look like a mule to me from that picture. Maybe she has the genes for size from a grandparent.

There's so much variety in the traits Ancona breeders select for and the markings they allow, so magpie markings aren't uncommon in Anconas.

Thank you. I have no clue what a mule looks like, she looks like a very large Ancona to me. No Muscovy traits. But I wanted a second opinion. I got muscovies the first time this year to act as incubators. Hopefully it will go well.

My Mule female never quacks. Instead she will Honk like a Goose. My males always just Hissed and never sounded like the raspy drakes from the Mallard ducks. My Mule also never has laid an egg.
