Mumsy's Romantic Garden Advice

Armor, they are hard to find, but if you go out at the right time you will see them. Your seeds went out in the mail yesterday.

I don't think Mumsy and lala are talking about the same plant. We have jewel weed in this area, I'd love to have some on my property, but I think they one come in yellow. Let me google a photo. http://www.wildmanstevebrill.com/Plants.Folder/Jewelweed.html. I think I might be wrong. It is in the impatient family.

Aoxa, yep. No clue what plant your talking about. Time to go google again.

What a beautiful plant! I love it. I have some "weeds" that look like that. I will have to look to see if they are still in bloom. Much smaller then the ones I found in the Internet though.

Google: Silver Cup Flower - not the latin name, but the image results are more accurate to the flower we have.

You can't see it in the image, but these flowers have this sparkle.

I better take pictures before the goats eat it.

They are larger than the first images. Flowers I have are the size of a mason jar rim.

Here goes: My Lavatera Arborea is blooming now. Such a beautiful flower. I have always had very good luck growing these.

Okay...if you're going to post the "proper name" you have to post the "common name" too (at least the common name that's used in your area).

PS: Sounds pretty "fancy pants" to me. (Pardon me, madam... would you have any Lavatera Arborea

Still thinking through a backdrop for that fence.

After reading about the ivy (which I love by the way) I am thinking that I probably don't want to use what's now considered invasive (unless y'all can convince me...I really do like the look and it would definitely do the job...). I also know that it is poisonous at least to goats but I'm hoping that a goat would have better sense than to pig-out on something like that.)

Anyhow...
There are Arborvitae that do okay in our area but I really don't like the "tall skinny" look. (Picky Picky...) I wonder if there is an Arborvitae that will spread out a little fuller but top out at about 6 ft. height...or if they could be trimmed or shaped or something. (Just thinking out loud here.)

Jewel weed....when I was a kid we vacationed in the 1000 islands and that was my favorite weed when I played on the banks of the lake. I would go around and touch all the seed pods to watch them explode :)

I had to look up burdock. I knew I had heard of it but I needed the pics to see what it is.

Mumsy do you recommend a book for us newbies to identify weeds or plants? I looked in the library yesterday but they were all such large books. I would like something smaller I could carry around to identify plants. Especially those that can be used for other uses.

Leah, I don't like the tall skinny look either. I have seen those plants. I have lots to do today, but will look around to see if I can find anything. There is a seed/ plant company that might have what you are looking for. I don't remember the name right now though.

I have to pull myself away, I have been on too long already this morning, but I thought others here would enjoy this.
