Mundelein, IL reporting in

Super excited about the meeting tonight! Hoping the trustees will listen with open ears and minds and not feel compelled to focus on personal agendas.

One person who wrote in a letter to the lawmakers made the point that this does NOT DECREASE property values but rather is a sign of upward thinking and middle class and above trends and may increase values. She points out that movements like this ATTRACT people who are desirable and who you want in your town vs pushing them away. Look at Prairie Crossing in Grayslake - they are all about green and sustainable and I did not see any smelly derelicts (people or animals) living there last time I passed through that community. Also, towns that do allow chickens around the Chicago suburbs are all "good reputation" towns like Oak Park, Naperville, Batavia, etc.

from California! Good luck with getting the ordinances changed.

Whew....rough night in Mundelein.

The opponents' arguments were so amazingly based in opinion, fear, no research - "My mind is made up. Don't confuse me with the facts." kinda describes the situation quite nicely.

The cluckers, on the other hand, did a GREAT job. Well read and reasoned. We can do this! Round 2 coming up one of these days soon!

blast --- so FYI it's been tabled for now.

BTW fair warning, many of you will run into the rude and crazy opposition at your town meetings.
Just remember "Haters gonna hate" and let it roll off.

Being respectful and honest with backed up facts will get you very far and even if people disagree with you, they can't deny you are good people. :)
