Sounds like turtles. Hubby and I have "Turtle season" where we go down to the pond with a "turtle kit" which includes chicken livers, worms, fishing poles, nets, and a 22 rifle. I don't let my ducks on the pond until I know it's turtle free! It's scary stuff... but look @ this link.

Just read last part about being completely plucked. Um.... im not sure what could be plucking them.... Maybe a cruel kid or sleepwalker? lol. Sorry i'm not much help.

What? Turtles kill & eat ducks???

wow never knew a turtle would take a pigeon, I knew they would get baby ducks and goslings though, that didn't even look like a snapping turtle either..

I agree.

This thread gives me the creeps. If someone is doing this to your ducks, you need to find out who and get them the heck out of your life. If it's a trespasser, then you need to find out who and get them the heck out of your life. Call the cops, what's happening to your ducks does not sound natural.

Sadistic duck-plucking and drowning murders? Seriously?

Bacterial infections are a killer and there's no reason why one duck would die from it and your other birds would be OK. On top of that you probably have overzealous males drowning females trying to mate with them. FYI males will do this to other males on occasion too. Your only real resolution is to take the carcasses for necropsy and pathology at any vet or your state poultry department. They'll tell you the real cause of death.

As for the plucked duck, a dead bird floating in the water is a plaything and food for other ducks. They will quickly strip it of all feathers and can hollow out the edible organs too. Unbelievable when you first see it but it does happen.

I'd be Plucking SOMEBODY if indeed it was somebody doing this horrible thing to my ducks/animals, let a lone Trespassing. ~I agree with Dr. Todd about taking them to the State Poultry Department or some one like that I'm sure they could & would try and help. On this calendar I have it says, Backyard Biosecurity: Keeping Your Birds Healthy and on the Month "March" page it says Report Sick Birds (a wild bird that has died) to contact your State, Tribal or Federal Natural Resources Agency. ~ I realize the ducks aren't wild but don't you think with something this strange or cruel (it IS Strange right?) that they might take a look into What or Who might have caused this? }}}}Well I don't know but, just a thought.
