Hi, new member and first-time poster here.

One of our Muscovy duck hens has been looking a little worse for wear lately. Just in the last couple of days we've noticed a bald spot on her head and last night we noticed her only opening her right eye about halfway. And the red around her eye is more of an orange color. Here's a not-so-good pic of her:

(Her right eye looks better here than it did this morning) Is this a disease?

We have two other hens and a drake, but the other two hens are brooding right now, so the drake gets a lot more "active" with this hen. Could the drake have done this?

My wife and I are new to Muscovies, we got these about 3 months ago and have fallen in love with them.

If she's the lone duck, sadly it could be too much lovin' i have a duck with a touch of bare neck because of the other girls nesting she was the only duck left with the boys .. it's now growing back thankfully, and one of the other ducks has returned to the flock. I have had some drakes get too rough with the fleshy parts of the girls heads and usually will put Vaseline on it to help heal/protect it.

She's a lovely colour!

Thank you for your reply. And Inga thanks you for the compliment, she certainly thinks she's lovely too.

Maybe I'll run to the store and buy some stuffed animal ducks and hope the drake takes a liking to them to give Inga a bit of a rest.

I would move the drake to bachelor quarters till Inga improves or one of your other females gets back to business, she is worn down, and could get injured worse. One time I had one of my ducks get the whole side of her face eaten off, I am not kidding you I came home from a walk with my dogs to blood everywhere, I just knew someone was dead, but my youngest duck had been attacked by one of my drakes she healed fine but it took a while. See if you can give her sometime time to get her health back maybe some kind of vits. in her water to help her. She is very pretty. Them boys are driven especially when young. Hormones! Sorry...
