Muscovy Duck Questions!

Thank you! I told my little cousin she could name one of them and she picked the name Ducky. LOL

I also have another question. I am new to owning ducks. I have always had chickens. If any of the ducklings end up being males will I need to separate them? I know with chickens it is best to only have one male, is it the same with Muscovy ducks?

You can have 1 male to every 8 or so females, for Muscovies. So if one of your ducklings is a male, you would have 2 males and 3 females. Yes, you'd have to separate them, or get more females. I have 22 females and 3 males, and it works out fine.

It depends if they fight. If they fight you will need to separate them and you might want to weed out the aggressive drakes because that is a trait they can pass on to their offspring. A good ratio is 1 drake to every 3-5 females.

The adult drake, Daffy, seems aggressive toward the 3 babies. The lady I got her from said they all got along fine But Daffy just didn't like them sharing the same pool. I have noticed they try to stay away from him if their mom is not with them. Should Daffy be the one I get rid of if I have to? He likes people but only certain ducks. He was their only duck for a while I believe.

Sorry, I didn't mean to say you needed to get rid of one now. I was speaking in general terms of male scovies fighting (and thinking of another post). If he is being overly aggressive and hurting the babies I would definitely separate them. If he's just picking on them a bit to show them who's boss they should be ok as the lady said they got along. But, depending on how well you know the lady.... she could have just said that so you would take them
