I'm wondering at which age do muscovy ducklings get their first true feathers? I've got a couple of them which we bought 5 weeks ago and they should have been about a week-10 days old then. One is having his/her new feathers coming in since last week. Do females or males get their first feathers first or has it nothing to do with their sex? The other one used to be smaller in size when we first got them, probably an other clutch a couple of days later, and although it used to be half the size of the bigger one it has grown quite bigger than the big one and still no feathers in. Does it have to do with their colour maybe? The brown one is getting his true feathers while the other one is totally yellow which I think is going to be totally white when he grows up. Any ideas? New pics coming soon!

By a few weeks, the feathers start coming in... it's said that the girls get feathers quicker but that is a tough one to tell.. i mostly got males this year and i wouldn't say my lone little girl stood out by her feathering it was her size that told us.

The ones above hatched mid-june that pic is from July...

This pic is of our only little duck as she is starting to really feather she was 5wks old in the above picture.

Thanks Quaker!

Well the brown baby has all his/her neck and chest area covered with the new feathers while the yellow one seems to have outgrown it for a bit and is still a big fluffy yellow ball, not one true feather yet. So it has nothing to do with their colour, right?

I have had whites, black, blue and chocolates i didn't find one colour came quicker than another now i did find with the white birds it was way more obvious. Perhaps others would know but in my experience i didn't find one to feather faster basing on colour.

I have a male and female muscovy ducklings and they are the same age and yet my female has all her feathers own and the male still has "fluffy" feathers on just his chest... Would this be normal?? He eats the same food and amount as the female does and man is he big. He's bigger than she is and is bigger than the older female... The one eating at the rock is the male in question lol the other is the female. The "fluffy" feathers are just under his chest
