Muscovy ducks fighting

We have 2 female Muscovy ducks (Donald and Daisy) they're around 1-2 years old, I've had them since 4 weeks of age. They used to always get along but yesterday when I let them out to roam around the started fighting, so I pulled them off each other and separated them (different sides of the yard, one with hens one with a hen who believes she's a duck) they left each other alone Ayer that until feeding time (and put away time) they refused to eat anything once back in the cage and only wanted to fight, I pulled them apart once again and put daisy in her "pool" and that calmed her down, she stayed until the Donald came over and tried to get in, they started to fight again but in the water this time, Daisy ended up standing on Donald's head and seemingly trying to drown her, I pulled Daisy out of her pool and put her in the hens house (Same cage just different part) after that I had no more fights (that I know of) they almost started again when it was dark but they stopped when my dogs barked at them. I know Daisy is the dominant duck but why all the fighting now? How do I stop this? Do I need the seperate them?

I have Muscovy's too and i had the same problem 2 sisters who have slept together since hatch over 2 yrs ago, well the one Sassy as soon as her sister Suzie came into their stall started chasing her around pecking at her she had to sleep in a different stall for about 3 days now they are back best friends. Hormones must be out of whack because now they have just started molting. Today Suzie wanted in to the other part of their yard away from everyone so I really think molting and hormone changing is causing it with mine. If your in USA and fall most likely your 2 are probably going through the same thing and hopefully they will feel better towards each other soon.If one is actually injuring the other I'd keep them separated but where they can still see each other. I usually only see this in spring when hormones are getting ramped up again for mating and egg laying, mine are through laying for this year.

Thank you, that last part made me understand a little more, I'm in Australia so spring time here, we have only noticed 1 duck laying never 2 though they've only just started laying again now it's spring

So your seeing the spring hormone start up oh boy can my girls get going when spring hits I usually just let them work it out since no one really gets hurt mostly just chasing and some standing on the other and some pecks but nothing serious not like the drakes that is a whole nother story. And if you don't have any drakes the girls will act out the mating ritual just like a drake mating a female and that means getting on top in the pool and holding under till you think one will drown but amazingly they don't. Just keep an eye on it till your sure. lol
