Muscovy Ducks won’t use winter shelter

I did give them a large bowl of snow. They are using it. The house is down to 59 degrees--the snow is not really melting, but they are eating it. I have a half of a bucket from what I filled yesterday before this mess. I ran out there and got it and will use sparingly.

Ducks are warmer than even chickens. Zero degrees is just fine with them.
My Muscovy had a baby by the back door two weeks ago. It’s been below zero with the windchill already. The Pekin suddenly began sleeping outside, and I did herd them inside. Now they are back to sleeping inside.
Yes, predators are an issue. However, the ducks aren’t cold yet, so as long as the housing isn’t scary to them, don’t worry.

Everyone please remember that while snow is frozen water, it’s puffy water.
On average, thirteen inches of snow equals one inch of rain in the US, although this ratio can vary from two inches for sleet to nearly fifty inches for very dry, powdery snow under certain conditions.
So snow isn’t a good source of water.

She has no other water source due to the electricity going out. :)
