hellooooo
so i recently left my duck pallas home alone for 4 nights (dw i left lots of water, food and nice bedding) shes as free range duck and she knows where her coop is so i thought it would be ok. when i came back home she was perfectly fine sitting on her eggs, BUT her voice has changed it sounds like a squeal of a cat everytime she speaks?? there are no signs of wounds and shes gained weight. she also started loosing feathers and fluff but im guessing shes making a nest for her eggs? do i need to go to the vet or is she okay???

How long has she been broody and are her egg fertile. asking because sitting on unfertile eggs just isn't fair to the duck it's takes a lot out of them to brood. If she is eating like normal coming out at least 1X a day to bath and eat and poop[very important] then most likely nothing stuck in her throat. but if she isn't eating and her poop looks off [other than it being broody poop] then something might need to be looked into. Are you giving her any vitamins while she's been sitting?

shes eating normally pooping fine and yes eggs every day, i bought this feed where it says it provides all the nutrients for a duck laying eggs i am buying shell grit tmw. shes my only duck and im not sure if they eggs are fertile because she goes down to the creek to meet the mallards every so often so i dont know what to do with the eggs (ive just left them ther?)

Do you have any idea how long she has been sitting? If she has been sitting longer than say 38 days then they may not be fertile and candling would be a good idea. Candling would be a good idea any way no sense letting her sit if the eggs aren't going to hatch. I do have Muscovy so I know how determined these girls are lol Not sure a Mallard drake to mate with a Muscovy female but who know they are pretty determined too when it comes to mating.

she only started 17 of aprill and has laid 13 eggs so far more consistent the longer it gets. 2 weeks now? she wasnt protective of them when she had about 7 but now even when i get close shes very agressive. and she sits on them most of the time but not 24/7

When she comes out go get some of the eggs take into a dark room and candle by now you should see veins real well this will let you know if she has fertile eggs.
If you can get a video of her new voice maybe I can compare to what I am hearing here since I have a very broody Muscovy right now too.

So the light technique works? I heard tht the shell is too thick and the only way to check is to crack it open? And the eggs arnt tht old yet? Oh and it sounds like I’m hurting her but I’m not

if she has been sitting 2 weeks you can tell at 7 days actually. I candle my scovy eggs and can see veins and later the duckling moving in the egg. It's really cool. Use an LED flash light and hold it up to the fat end of the egg.
